My Work Buddy

A pocket-sized companion for the workday.

Small prompts. Big days.

My Work Buddy is a standalone, individual-facing workplace assistive app designed primarily for autistic and neurodivergent young adults.

It helps the person using it understand what happens next, follow workplace routines and visual task steps, communicate when they need support, and build confidence and independence at work.

My Work Buddy can be used independently of AbilityBridge OS. AbilityBridge OS is a separate organisational supported-employment platform for providers and professionals.

Why it matters

Clearer, calmer,
more manageable.

Many workplaces are built around unspoken rules, busy communication, changing expectations and routines that can feel obvious to some people and overwhelming to others. My Work Buddy helps make those things clearer, calmer and more manageable.

  • Reduces uncertainty about what happens next
  • Supports independence rather than replacing it
  • Makes real workplace tasks more understandable
  • Helps people feel safer and more confident at work
  • Makes workplace support easier to reach, day to day
  • Gives the individual an easier way to communicate support needs

High expectations. Lower unnecessary friction. Reduced cognitive load doesn't mean reduced ambition.

In real workplaces

Built for real shifts,
in real workplaces.

My Work Buddy isn’t a classroom exercise. It is used on live shifts — in warehouses, kitchens, retail floors and offices — during the ordinary moments where a small prompt makes a big difference.

My Work Buddy belongs with the individual’s workplace support. It is designed to make the working day easier to understand and navigate — not to turn the person into something to be monitored. It isn’t an employer monitoring tool.

Routines, workplace information, visual task guides and trusted contacts are designed to stay with the individual as their work changes.

Built from experience

Built from real supported
employment experience.

My Work Buddy was created by AbilityBridge and shaped alongside autistic and neurodivergent young adults through real working days in real workplaces.

It began with practical questions: How do we make the next working day clearer? How do we reduce unnecessary uncertainty? How can someone know what happens next, remember a task, communicate how they are feeling or ask for help?

That is where My Work Buddy started — one workplace problem at a time.

AbilityBridge OS developed separately around the professional and organisational support needed by job coaches, employers and providers.

Ongoing support

Support that can stay with you as work changes.

My Work Buddy is designed around the working day rather than a particular programme. It can support someone during a workplace placement, while starting a job, settling into a new role or progressing in paid employment.

Familiar routines, workplace information, visual task guidance and trusted contacts can remain available as the person’s working life changes.

Getting a job matters. Staying in work, building confidence and knowing where to turn for support matters too.

Check-ins give the individual a simple way to communicate and reflect on how work is going, in their own words. The individual stays at the centre of that support — it is support with the person, not oversight of an employee.

Continuity as work changes

Familiar support can continue as someone moves from a placement into paid work.

Regular check-ins

A simple way for someone to reflect on and communicate how their working day is going.

Support when it helps

An easier route to a supportive conversation when the person wants one.

Everyday independence

Prompts and task guidance the individual can use without waiting for someone else.

My Work Buddy isn’t only about getting into work. It’s about staying there, growing in confidence and succeeding over time.

Funding

Access to Work
and My Work Buddy.

Access to Work is a Department for Work and Pensions scheme that may help with practical workplace support where an individual has disability-related barriers at work.

My Work Buddy is an individual-facing workplace assistive app. AbilityBridge OS is a separate organisational supported-employment platform.

Where Access to Work support is being explored, the relevant question is the individual’s workplace barriers and whether My Work Buddy may help address those barriers. It is not an application to purchase AbilityBridge OS or an organisation-wide supported-employment platform.

For a supported intern, My Work Buddy relates to workplace support rather than delivery of the educational curriculum.

Eligibility and awards are determined by DWP on an individual basis. Funding is not guaranteed, and the appropriate support depends on the person, their role, workplace barriers and support already available.

Photography on this website primarily reflects real AbilityBridge interns, workplaces and experiences. Where it is not appropriate to show an individual’s identity, selected photographs may be digitally or AI-assisted edited to anonymise the person while preserving the real setting and context. We use this approach carefully to protect privacy, dignity and safeguarding while keeping our photography grounded in genuine experiences. Product screens shown may also include representative content while remaining faithful to the live My Work Buddy application.
